Prelude -- Gotta Serve Somebody
Help us to remember, God, that we who gather today may all be different, but you are what unites us in service to you and the world.
Call to Worship -- A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall
We - your children - have been many places, doing and seeing many things which draw us to be cleaned in the waters of baptism and transformed.
Welcome and Opportunities to Serve
Invocation of the Holy Spirit -- Blowin' in the Wind
Come Holy Spirit, enliven our worship. Be the answer and the wind that brings the grace and love of God.
Song of Praise -- Saved
We are a people who acknowledge that salvation is not a moment, but a process, and we celebrate together our journey of transformation in Jesus.
Intergenerational Time
Many of Dylan's fans were enraged by his choice to perform gospel music. It seems as if many of them loved Dylan while they could control him. How do we try and control each other? How do we do the same to Jesus?
Song of Response -- The Times They Are A Changin'
We understand, O God that you are always in motion and in mission. As the times, traditions and ways community change, help us to make your presence known in a world of change.
Prayer of the People -- Ring Them Bells
Please accept this as our community prayer, God of all. We lift to you at this time those who are close to our community and listed in the bulletin.
Offering -- What Can I Do For You?
Great Thanksgiving
Lord's Prayer
Communion
Communion Songs -- Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Pressing On
Communion is a means of grace — a way for us to encounter the real presence of Christ here and now. Heaven's door is opened for all to approach God and then share that grace with the world.
Song of Praise -- Solid Rock
We depart from worship knowing you are a sure foundation for life outside this sanctuary.
Blessing and Sending Forth
Postlude -- Like a Rolling Stone, Highway 61 Revisited
And we acknowledge that the world is still full of need for your grace. Give us eyes to see those on their own, with no direction, searching on the highways for the home they've always had in you.

Bob Dylan- Gotta Serve Somebody - Gospel Songs of
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AWgnsYECLo
The very first song in the service - "You Got to Serve Somebody" - grabs my attention.
He's right -doesn't matter who you are, what you do- you serve sombody or something. The question is, "who" or "what" and my answer depends on when you ask me. I HOPE and PRAY that I serve God. I am (sometimes) self aware enough to realize the numerous occasions I serve other masters, sometimes knowingly, other times, not so much. Dylan's words in this song and the others call me into accountability (and make me move.)
"The order is rapidly fadin'. And the first one now will later be last for the times they are a-changin'." I'm old enough to remember singing those words in my youth. Makes me sort of wistful and wondering about the outcome of our passion for social chanage. We do have a woman and a black candidate for President. But I often wonder if the change is deep or superficial. I'm still left longing. Maybe we just need to keep singing ourselves into working and leave the results to God.
